Parent & Community Engagement

Parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. We partner with families to build skills, confidence, and community connections.

How We Support Families

Family Partnerships

Every family works with a dedicated Family Advocate to set goals, access resources, and build toward family well-being and self-sufficiency.

Parent Education

Workshops on child development, nutrition, financial literacy, GED preparation, and job readiness. Because when parents grow, children thrive.

Policy Council

Parents have a voice in program governance through the Policy Council, helping make decisions that shape the program for all families.

Central Kentucky Head Start believes that parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. We encourage families to get involved through a variety of programs and initiatives.

Get Involved

Join our Policy Council, Parent Committees, or volunteer at your child’s center. Contact your Family Advocate for involvement opportunities.

Parent University

Our workshop series covers topics including budgeting, financial literacy, parenting skills, healthy relationships, and nutrition. Certificates are awarded upon completion of fall and spring semesters.

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students)

This initiative engages positive male role models in our centers. Participants wear custom shirts, greet students, and offer encouragement. A March Madness competition is held annually.

Ready 4K

An evidence-based family engagement solution that sends weekly text message reminders and information designed by educational researchers and parents.

Comprehensive Support

Through our partnership with CKCAC, we address food insecurity, transportation, employment assistance, and safe housing with customized support for every family.
