Enrollment – Central Kentucky Head Start

Head Start and Early Head Start are 100% free for eligible families. The application takes about 10 minutes.

Who Is Eligible?

Families with income at or below the federal poverty guidelines

Children in foster care

Families receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) or SSI

Families experiencing homelessness

Head Start: Children ages 3–5

Early Head Start: Pregnant women and children birth to age 3

What You’ll Need to Apply

Child’s birth certificate

Or other proof of age

Proof of income

Tax return, pay stubs, W-2, or benefits letter

Proof of residency

Utility bill, lease, or official mail

Child’s immunization records

Current shot records from your doctor

Insurance card

Medicaid or private insurance (if available)

Our team reviews applications based on community need and available spots.

You’ll be notified of acceptance and your child’s center assignment.

Eligibility

Students who meet eligibility requirements will be considered for enrollment as openings become available. Children are accepted throughout the school year until April as openings occur. We encourage you to apply as soon as possible.

Income Verification

We accept one of the following for income verification:

Proof of income for the last 12 months (pay stubs)
Tax forms from the prior calendar year
Proof of TANF or KTap
Proof of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Benefits
Proof of Social Security Benefits
Proof of Supplemental Security Income
Child Support documentation
Unemployment documentation
Foster Care / Kinship Care documentation

Proof of Birth

Hospital Documentation
Birth Certificate
Insurance Card
Immunization Certificate
